Philosophy

Ingomar: As you have realized the various components are rather loosly coupled. We don't want to tie us to an integrated platform as we believe that we will get the best result out of a best-of-breed approach. This also allows us to evolve the platform over time as we like, instead of hoping for "some meaningful evolution" of an integrated platform. A very Valtech-ish attitude. The downside is that we don't get a perfectly streamlined UI, but we made this choice anyway.

Technical

This platform is running on 2.6.x Linux inside VMWare. And yes we can scale.
Our database of choice is PostgreSQL. Apache for HTTPD and nethack for breaks.
